Union-Präsident für Obergrenze 

Dirk Zingler, Präsident des Bundesligisten 1. FC Union Berlin, hat sich angesichts der Reform in der Champions League und der vorerst gescheiterten Super League für Obergrenzen und den Erhalt der 50+1 Regel ausgesprochen. „Deckel drauf! Ablösesummen, Spielergehälter, Beraterhonorare – Obergrenzen bei den Ausgaben können uns helfen, der tödlichen Wachstumsspirale zu entkommen“, schrieb Zingler in einem Gastbeitrag in der „Berliner Zeitung“. „Die 50+1-Regel verhindert den unbegrenzten Einfluss von Anteilseignern und ist ein schützenswertes Gut, wenn man Fußball für Menschen denkt und organisiert.“

Der Kampf gegen die Übernahme der Vereine durch Investoren und dem Erhalt der Regel gebührt dabei für Zingler oberste Priorität. „Der wachsende Druck, sie abzuschaffen, ist dem Bedarf nach immer mehr und immer neuem Geld geschuldet. Kriegen wir diesen Bedarf in den Griff, indem wir die Finanzströme deckeln, retten wir unseren Fußball“, schrieb der 56-Jährige, der dem Verein seit 2004 als Präsident vorsteht. Zingler pocht darauf, neue Grundsätze aufzustellen: „Dem Streben nach immer neuen Einnahmequellen entziehen wir die Grundlage, indem wir uns vernünftige Regeln geben.“

Union Berlins Zingler: „Die hochgezüchteten Fußballmonster müssen sterben“

Die Ängste von Florentino Pérez, dem Präsidenten von Real Madrid, der sagte, nur mit Hilfe der Super League seinen Verein am Leben erhalten zu können, bekräftigt der Union-Präsident: „Lieber Señor Pérez, haben Sie keine Angst: Die hochgezüchteten Fußballmonster, die nur mit 3,5 Milliarden Euro aus einer Super League zu retten sind, müssen sterben, bevor sie den schönsten Sport der Welt vollends verschlingen.“

In der Nacht von Sonntag auf Montag hatten zwölf europäische Top-Klubs die Gründung der Super League als Konkurrenz zur „Königsklasse“ bekannt gegeben. Gelockt wurden die Vereine mit der Ankündigung, dass den Gründungsmitgliedern zunächst 3,5 Mrd. Euro zur Verfügung stehen sollen. Nach massiven Protesten von Fans, Spielern, Trainern, Verbänden und aus der Politik zogen sich nach 48 Stunden zunächst die sechs Vertreter aus der Premier League und später weitere Vereine aus Italien und Spanien zurück. Der FC Barcelona und Real Madrid halten jedoch an den Plänen fest.
